Steppingstone Summer Day Camps are open to the public.
Welcome to the Steppingstone Summer Music Academy
Housed in the Steppingstone School for Gifted
Education the SSMA provides an immersive
summer music experience for pianists and
string players. Serving students of all ages, this
day camp features weekly performances from
faculty and students as well as comprehensive
in-depth instruction in all areas of music
study. The SSMA contains two divisions: the
Suzuki program, which accepts all beginning
students in a one-, two-, or three-week course
and the Academy, which accepts all students
able to prepare for a solo and/or ensemble
performance. The Academy program takes
place over one three-week course.
SPECIAL EVENTS
Academy students are required to attend all events.
Parents and friends are invited to attend. Suzuki
students are required to play at the 3 p.m. Suzuki
presentations, but do not have to attend all events.

Session A: July 7 - 11

Taught by Mary Stolberg, this course is for
the beginning violin student, with focus on
posture, tone and memory skills. Each student
will learn the joy of playing with feeling
and confidence. Activities include:
- group lessons
- music/art projects
- indoor and outdoor games
- music theory
- music history

Session: July 7 - 25, Monday through Friday
Led by Eileen Brownell, Marc Levine, and
Tami Morse, this course is perfect for students
wanting experience in solo and ensemble
performance. Students will benefit from
informative private lessons and learn to work
together in small and large ensembles.
In addition to traditional
instruction students will learn
about baroque performance
practice, use baroque bows,
and play the harpsichord.

Summer Music Academy Faculty
Eileen Brownell, cello, holds Doctor of Musical
Arts and Master of Music degrees from the
University of Michigan and a Bachelor of
Music degree from the University of Denver.
Eileen teaches at Bowling Green State University,
the Rudolf Steiner School of Ann Arbor,
the Ann Arbor School for the Performing Arts
and performs with, among others, the West
Shore Symphony Orchestra, the Ann Arbor
Symphony and Helix Seven.
Marc Levine, violin, holds a Doctor of Musical
Arts degree from Stony Brook University and
Masters and Bachelor of Music degrees from
Indiana University.Marc serves on the faculties
of the Stony Brook University Pre-College
program and the Music Academy of Long
Island and is also Assistant Conductor for
Stony Brook Opera.<.p>
Tami Morse, piano and harpsichord, is currently
completing her Doctor of Musical Arts
degree at Stony Brook University and received
both a Bachelors and Masters degree in harpsichord
performance and music history from
the University of Michigan. Tami has taught
music theory and guest taught music history
courses at Stony Brook University
and is an active performer on the east
coast including concerts with the
baroque group Flying Forms, of
which she is a founding member.
Mary Stolberg, Suzuki violin, studied
violin performance at Columbus College
in Georgia as well as Wayne State University.
She has served as Assistant Concertmaster
of the Savannah Symphony, and
also played with the Grand Rapids Symphony
and Detroit Symphony Orchestra
in addition to teaching for over ten years
at William Tyndale College.
